Daily Routine Charts

Who doesn't love harping on their kids about doing jobs/chores/everyday routines?

Someone shared this link on Marana Moms and I thought it was an awesome resource for all things "charts".  This site seriously has a chart for everything.  Kid can't remember to brush their teeth...chart for that!  Kid needs extra motivation to clean up after their guinea pig/practice their saxophone/get in some exercise...chart for that!

Summertime plans

My sister-in-law made a clock last year for her kids.  It outlines their day from 8am - 8pm.  It may not be the exact schedule you are looking for, but I love the idea! You could make your own to fit your schedule!

This summer we made a list of things we would love to do.  I am sure we will not do some of them, but we want to try to do as many as we can.  We wrote down any and all suggestions the kids had:

Go to Idaho (cousins)
Go to California (great grandma and beach)
Go to Utah (grandparents)
Go to Hawaii (commercials on tv show it's fun!)
Swim lessons
go to the movies
go bowling
play games
go hiking
Disneyland
go fishing
roast marshmellows
draw pictures
paint
play Risk
watch movies
bring presents to people
art stuff
invite friends over
fold clothes (their idea)
go on a plane
go hiking with backpacks
go camping
make smoothies
make puppets
make a game
make play dough
make cookies
go to the zoo
visit Macy and London (Holbrook cousins)
visit Kenny Pike family (Phx cousins)
visit g'ma and g'pa Bochat (Prescott gparents)
play baseball
earn prizes
go to carnival
do chores (your wish is my command)
watch tv
wash cars
plant front porch tree
bike ride
scavenger hunt
make pie
write notes
eat 'miss piggy' (our pig)
go to library challenge
story time
paint boats
make ice cream
make cards

So far we have done quite a few of these already and we are ready to do more! We also chose 2 things the kids are really interested in and have decided to invite friends over to do those two things weekly.  1) play with LEGOS 2) cook something fun/new.  Last week we did both and we hope to keep it up all summer!

What are you doing this summer?

Summer schedule

In an effort to add purpose and organization to our summer days I created a summer schedule that I think will work well for us. We also made a little summer "bucket list" to make sure to get our fun in before school starts again.  Here's ours...

Daily schedule:
1. Morning chores (make bed, get dressed, brush teeth, take out the recycling (Hailey's job) and take out the trash (Miles' job) should be all done by one hour after getting up. If it is done by then, then the kids can earn "screen time" (computer, Ipad, or TV show) for later in the day. I have my own morning jobs that I will also strive to get done 1 hour after waking up.

2. Later morning activities will probably include swimming lessons for the majority of the summer. If we aren't doing swimming lessons for some of the weeks in the summer than this will be down time, time to play.

3. Lunch: Goal for the summer--have the kids make their own lunches most days. I'm really excited about this and I realize it will take planning ahead on my part.

4. Quiet time: When Clay naps the kids will need to be quiet. Hailey and I had a tradition I'd like to continue through summer with both Miles and Hailey--when Clay fell asleep we would get out books and read together. So, before they have their personal quiet activities I'd like to try to do this with them. They will be able to use their screen time now if they have earned it. I'd like to limit screen time to one hour.

5. Afternoon chores: They have rotating afternoon responsibilities that include cleaning up the following rooms (living room, family room, kitchen, or backyard). They each have one area they are "in charge" of each day. After cleaning their daily area and putting away their clean laundry they are free to play.

Our bucket list:

I have found that sometimes I run faster than I have strength without even realizing it. I find that what works best for my personality is that it is much easier to have fun with my family when life is simple and not overly scheduled; and even though I try to keep my life simplified, I get excited about all the activities I can and want to do with my kiddos and before I know it sometimes I am doing way too much than I can comfortably do. So, writing down the goals for fun I have this summer was helpful because I can account for this and try, ahead of time, to not wear myself out too much!

1. Camp out/sleep on the trampoline with sleeping bags, pillows, etc. We better do this before the heat really hits!

2. Get a babysitter for Clay and take Miles and Hailey to at least three of the free movies at Tower Theaters. (Fridays after "afternoon chores" are complete. We may have to do those chores mid-mornings on Fridays!)

3. Knott's Berry Farm and playing at the beach(we're going in June, might as well add it!)

4. Make a patriotic CD to listen to with the kids around 4th of July.

5. Flagstaff trip-mini golfing, hiking (week of 4th of July)

6. Swimming nights at grandma's house

7. Drawing class at Monkey Business every Wednesday. (signed them both up!)

8. Complete summer reading program through library.

9. Teach children how to clean the bathrooms (Friday afternoons part of afternoon chores)

10. Have friends over to play. (Fridays when we aren't going to the movies and after afternoon chores are completed.)

There you have it! I'm excited to have a plan. What's yours?

Hot Air Balloons

Renee's post made me think about what we have done lately to spice up our mornings :)

The last few mornings while walking to the bus stop we have seen Hot Air Balloons. Brelee absolutely LOVES hot air balloons and she can spot them before anyone else! She didn't want to go home, she wanted to stay and watch them. So I told her we should go home and color our own. I found these two clips, and whole I know nothing else about the sites, these pages were great coloring fun! (and it looked like there were some other fun things we could find from these websites too)

Coloring Hot Air Balloons reminded me of the tissue paper hot air baloons my class made in 8th grade. You fill them with hot air and they float! I am pretty much determined to find instructions and make own of my own again. Even better than the floating candle lanterns from Rapunzel. Those things scare me! Seriously, they want to start a forest fire! :)

If anyone knows how I would love to find out! tell me!

Halloween Handprint Ghost

My mom saved a handprint ghost from when I was little (the faded ghost who looks like he is crying even though he is smiling- I can only wonder what my feelings were that day!), and I thought it would be fun to make some with my kids. All you need is:
White paper
Orange Paint
Black Construction Paper
Black Crayon or Marker
Glue
1. On a sheet of white paper place orange painted handprints, set aside to dry. (I am assuming that you know how to paint your child's hands, set them on a piece of paper then wash said hands)
2. One another piece of white paper cut out the shape of your ghost. Don't get too technical, they always look cute when they are done.
3. Cut out oval eyes from the black construction paper-or draw on your own!
4. Color in the face
5. Once your hand prints are dry, it shouldn't take long, cut around the handprint and glue to the body of the ghost.
6. BOO!

Cut out Snowflakes

Since I can remember I have cut out these snowflakes at Christmas time, I scanned them onto the computer & I can e-mail to anyone who is interested. I am sure that they would be really cute if you printed then cut them out on different colored paper. Take some ribbon or string and hang from the ceiling or tape to windows..
